Holiness is not a spectator sport!

This shirt is meant to encourage us to holiness and honor those that have died living the Gospel. The list on the back gives us a look at men and women who have died “giving it all”. Not all were martyred in the strict sense of the word; dying rather than renounce the faith, but all died living the gospel message.

The early martyrs found their crown in the coliseum, some at the hands of the American Indians, some martyrs of purity, many because they were Christians in Nazi Europe. One gave her life for her unborn child, another spent thirty years in solitary confinement in Communist China, another is a Lutheran Pastor that Pope John Paul praised for his courageous witness in a concentration camp.

All are examples of holiness in action; reminders of God’s grace and role models for the faithful. “Viva Christo Rey” (Long Live Christ the King) were the last words many of the martyrs said as they were killed. May it also be our motto in life.

My friends…My classmates…My generation compromised by the selfishness of others.  As a survivor I will not let future generations be slaughtered in the name of convenience.  I will not be silent.  I will not forget.
