This medal is available in these sizes: Small – 15MM; Medium -18MM; Large – 22MM, and Extra-Large – 25MM.St. Francis of Assisi, like Mother Teresa of Calcutta, is one of the few persons that non-Catholics " even non Christians " agree should be canonized. He was the son of a wealthy cloth merchant, and his early life, though not sinful, was full of frivolity and playfulness. Even when war broke out with a neighboring city and he was captured and imprisoned, he bore the privations with remarkable peace. Gradually, the desire to renounce his privileged station in life for the sake of the greater glory of God, led him to help and befriend the poorest of the poor. His father thought his son was crazy, and tried to stop him from throwing his position and his life away, so Francis made his break with his former life complete, and gave his father, literally, the clothes off of his back. Francis received many interior inspirations, most notably, from Christ, who told him "rebuild my church; which you can see, is in ruins." Francis took him literally, and started, with his own hands, to rebuild many small chapels that had fallen into disrepair. His extravagant embrace of "lady poverty," however, was just the inspiration the age needed, and before long, hundreds joined him in this total abandonment to divine providence. Francis efforts were soon visited by a remarkable event: while praying in from of a crucifix, he was transfixed with beams of light that left him with the stigmata (the five wounds of Christ). St. Francis is the patron saint of merchants, and Italy. His feast day is celebrated on October 4. © 2006Click here to see our selection of chains: Chains This item will ship separately from our warehouse, if you have other items in your order they will arrive separately.

Little is known for certain of St. George. He was early on described as a Christian knight, born in Cappadocia who lived in the early part of the 4th century. The iconography that surrounds him is owing to the most enduring legend of him: that he was riding one day in the province of Lybia, and happened upon a city named Sylene. The inhabitants of the city had been terrorized by a terrible dragon who lived nearby in a marshy swamp. Though they banded together many times to try and kill the beast, they were always driven away by his terrible breath, and finally settled into a routine of placating the monster by feeding him two sheep a week. When the sheep ran scarce, they were forced to draw lots to offer the beast a villager instead. The lot fell, tragically, to the King"s own daughter. After unsuccessfully trying to purchase a substitute, she was dressed as a bride and led to her doom. But fortunately, our hero, St. George, happened upon the scene, and pierced the dragon with his lance (the scene depicted in the medal) and, borrowing the girdle from the King"s daughter, put it around the dragon"s neck, whereupon the girl led the beast, like a lamb, into the city. The people were still in great fear, and George offered to kill the beast, if they would believe in Christ and be baptized. They did, and he fulfilled his promise. The King offered him half his kingdom, which the Saint refused, asking him, instead, to "maintain churches, honor the clergy, and be mindful of the poor." Later, under the emperors Diocletian and Maximian, many Christians were wavering in their faith, and to set a good example, George boldly declared his faith in Christ, and was tortured in many ways and finally killed. St. George is the patron saint of Boy Scouts, Soldiers, Farmers and England. His feast day is April 23. © 2006Click here to see our selection of chains: Chains This item will ship separately from our warehouse, if you have other items in your order they will arrive separately.
